Gentle Ghost
“The Bear”
from Family (2010, self-released)

Gentle Ghost: “Born of artfulness and intent manifested in raucous feedback, sweet melody, visual stimulation and physical strain. The resulting culmination is cerebral and soulful. Delicate and unwieldy. Emancipating and wily. Gentle Ghost is breaking in the windows in your own house because sometimes just walking through the door is boring.”
You can listen to and purchase Family directly from the band (vinyl + digital for $15, or just digital for $10). Gentle Ghost is also on Tumblr.

Flying Lotus
“…And The World Laughs With You (Feat. Thom Yorke)”
from Cosmogramma (2010, Warp)
What are y’all out in the interwebsphere doing on this Saturday night? Since most all of my friends left town after finals, I’m sitting here at my apt listening to the new Flying Lotus record. I’m really loving the atmosphere it’s creating on a lazy Saturday night in.
Co-directed by D.A. Pennebaker and benefiting the Red Hot Organization, the National are webcasting their performance of High Violet, live from the Brooklyn Academy of Music, right now!
Welcome two new contributors to My Robot Sidekick: my buddy Steven who I’ve known IRL for a few years and my blog buddy Andy who I’ve followed from my personal account for a long time. I’ve enabled the author avatars so you’ll be able to see who wrote each post.
Also, hi! I’m Josh. Welcome to the many new followers we’ve been picking up over the last couple of weeks! I promise the posts will pick up sometime soon, I’ve just been busy trying to find a summer job now that school is out.
The Tallest Man On Earth
“The Wild Hunt”
from The Wild Hunt (2010, Dead Oceans)
I had the pleasure of seeing Kristian Matsson a few weeks ago and I’m still blown away by his performance. As one of my inebriated friends put it, “I’m not gay, but after that I would totally make out with that dude,” and you know, that’s not far off. For his entire set I was entranced, sucked in to his music, unable to think of anything else (even the guy next to me who tried to unsuccessfully outsing Matsson couldn’t break my concentration). Do yourself a favor and see him if he comes anywhere near your town.

Hey Marseilles
To Travels & Trunks (June 29, 2010 via Onto Entertainment)
The Seattle septet Hey Marseilles is a classical-pop folk group with a passion for big, swooping melodies. It’s the kind of bombastic rock their city is known for. The band’s debut full-length, To Travels & Trunks meshes together a smörgåsbord of instruments. They recently performed the “folkestral” track for hometown radio station, KEXP, which you can watch here. — Under the Radar
If you enjoy handclaps, trumpets, and strings, take a listen! And if you really dig it, and live in the Western US, find them on the road this summer.
